The Story Behind Camino Colorido

The flowing lines and layered colors of this Mola panel carry more than beauty, they reflect the Kuna worldview that everything in nature has both a visible and a hidden self. This belief in duality is stitched into every mola, where each cut of fabric reveals a deeper layer of meaning beneath the surface.

Hidden Tide began in the hands of a Kuna artisan, who carefully built the design through a centuries-old reverse-appliqué technique, layering fabrics and cutting away sections to form intricate patterns. Each stitch is done by hand, a process that can take weeks to complete.

Once the textile was finished, it traveled to our small-batch shoemaking partners in Colombia, where skilled artisans hand-cut and stitched it into warm tan leather, adding a cushioned insole for comfort and a durable sole for everyday wear.

Your purchase does more than bring you a unique work of wearable art, it supports Kuna artisans in Panama and Colombia, helping preserve their craft, sustain their families, and keep this tradition alive for generations to come.
